The Things "Black Women" Take For Granted!!!

By: John Patrick Adams

So this morning at the gym I noticed a woman who had evidently gotten lip injections…  Now I’ve seen her there before and to be honest, she’s quite beautiful as is…  Now by the title, you can probably tell already she’s not an African American Woman, but a sister from a Caucasian Mother…  As I sat there, I began to think about all of my sistas who take for granted what women of other races believe are gifts… You know those full lips, big hips, full breast and a booty that will make your head turn…  Those naturally curly locks and the silky dark skin…  At some point black women were made to feel what truly is beautiful, needs improvement…

I love when I see a woman rocks her natural fro or even a college cut…  A woman who feels strong enough in her own appearance to not enhance it with weave or wigs… I love a woman accentuate her lips regardless to their size, bring attention to her eyes regardless to how wide, and a woman who ain’t afraid to show off her curves… But sadly to say, at some point black women were made to feel what truly is beautiful, needs improvement...

Many of you today complain about your hips being too big, yet plastic surgeons are making millions inserting implants…  There are those of you who feel your lips are too big, yet plastic surgeons are making millions  injecting lips…  There are those of you who wish you were a shade lighter, yet tanning salons are making millions on women who want to be darker…  So when did it happen???  When did what is truly beautiful start needing improvement???

Well it happened when many of you were little girls…  You were compared not only to girls of other races, but girls of your own…  You were compared by a mother who was compared when she was a girl…  She didn’t do it purposely to hurt you, she was only passing on the curse given to her…  Maybe your hair wasn’t long enough…  Your eyes weren’t light enough…  It could be you carried a little bit more weight than other girls your age…  Or it could have been that one boy you wanted so bad who picked the girl you were already envious of…  At some point you looked in the mirror and convinced yourself what is truly beautiful needs improvement…

Then there are those of you reading who later in life felt you needed improvement…  Maybe it was because your husband left you for a thinner, lighter, and whiter looking woman…  Maybe it was after the divorce or after many failed attempts of finding a man…  Maybe it was because you didn't get accepted in a Sorority, hired on a job, or the lead solo at your church....  Out of nowhere, Beauty became Ugly at least in your mind... You looked in the mirror, saw what you felt was causing you to constantly lose, and decided you needed improvement…

What I know for sure is… You’re beautiful just the way you are…  We’ve all heard “Black Don’t Crack” and that really is a lie, lol…  Some black folks looking pretty damn bad, but I digress…  The reason I say it’s a lie is because many of you black women are “cracked” inwardly…  You’re broken because you’re feeling you’re not enough or feeling as though what you have is too much…  You know like  too much lip, too much hip, too much tittie, too much booty…  You feel your hair is nappy, too short, too kinky…  BLACK WOMEN, you are gifted with so much…  So much until other women long to have what is naturally given to you…  You are beautiful, don’t underestimate or depreciate the beauty you possess, no improvements needed…  You are the models plastic surgeon sketch…  You are the silhouettes in movies and dreams... You are the epitome of beauty, learn to appreciate it by embracing different is beautiful…
