Chad Brawley: The WeWorship Project (Interview Part 2)

By: Carlos Harleaux

Chad Brawley is a man who wears many hats. He currently serves as the Director of Worship Arts at The Luke Church of Humble, TX. However, he is also songwriter, musician, consultant, workshop facilitator and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Chad recently released his gospel LP, The WeWorship Project.  I was able to pull him away from his busy schedule to chat about his new music, what inspires him and even some interesting facts you may not already know. Here is Part 1 of our interview. Check out part 2 HERE

Do you have a favorite song on The WeWorship Project?

I have more than one, but I’ve already heard it so many times. But the other day I was listening to it and there is a moment of congregational worship with hymns and a medley that I love. It was a moment that just flowed. That’s my favorite part of the record. It was a real, organic, God moment.

Is there anything that you know now that you wish you could have told yourself 20 years ago?

Absolutely. Plenty of things. Take better care of yourself. People will be people. Other people will always look out for their best interest, so you need to do the same. I’m guilty of always putting everything and everyone above me. Get some rest. Go on vacation. Don’t overwork. Invest in great relationships.

This isn’t talked about so much in Black Christian life, but mental health is important. Get therapy or see a counselor. That doesn’t mean you’re sick, crazy or anything is wrong with you. It’s healthy to talk to people. I wasn’t exposed to that until later in life when my current pastor, Dr. Timothy Sloan, was open with the fact that he has battled depression and mental health issues. Therapy changed his life and he inspires us to go get therapy.  I think that’s stellar because a lot of us just say, “Turn it over to the Lord and he’ll work it out”. That’s fine but, He can work it out through a counselor.

What’s one thing your fans would be shocked to know about you?

I love the outdoors. I love exercising, even though I probably don’t do it enough. I really have no hobbies special though.

If you could describe your life in one song, what would it be and why?

I’m reminded of a hymn. “If I could help somebody along the way, then my living won’t be in vain”. That’s a great summary of my life. My life is built around serving, whether it’s putting out a CD that churches can sing to bless their worship or helping people personally.

Where can people purchase the WeWorship Project and follow you on social media?

The easiest thing is to go to my website, www.chadbrawley.com. There are buttons to all of my social media and all the digital stores. My handle on Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter, is @CKBMusik. On Facebook, it’s Chad Brawley.
