Central Intelligence; Check Out My Review

By: Nikki Jackson

Central Intelligence, starring comedian Kevin Hart and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, is an action-comedy that took me by surprise! I expected it to be cute, but it turned out so much better than I expected. Johnson plays Robbie Weirdick, a high schooler that was teased and bullied because of his weight and awkwardness, and Hart is Calvin "The Golden Jet" Joyner, or C.J., the high school favorite voted most likely to succeed. 20yrs later, Robbie is now Bob Stone, a rogue CIA agent, and Calvin is an accountant that feels like there should be more to his life. Bob finds C.J. on Facebook a few days before their high school class reunion, and they agree to meet for drinks. Turns out, Robbie Weirdick is now a massive and built guy who looks like the Rock. Except, he's kinda weird in a lovable way. He’s still a huge nerd who references Twilight books, his favorite movie is Sixteen Candles, and he wears a fanny pack; but he’s also clearly hiding something and uses his “hey, buddy” grin to get Calvin to help him with his payroll account. Bob is enamored with Calvin, not only because he was the high school hero, but because he was the only that offered a helping hand in a moment of humiliation. But Calvin soon finds out there's more to Bob than meets the eye. He's soon caught up in a whirlwind that involves satellites, gun fire, and multiple double-crosses. At one point even I didn't know who to trust.
Hart and Johnson have great chemistry, and this movie is hilariously funny but not as over the top as you'd think with Hart being a main character. I was entertained the whole time and definitely recommend you are this. I give it a 9.
