Man Arrested For Hitting 3-Year-Old Girl In The Face With A Belt on SnapchatBy: Monya Fleming
A Chicago man has been charged with hitting a 3-year-old girl in the face with a belt after police received a tip about a Snapchat photo an unidentified person said they had received that showed the incident.
The person reportedly notified authorities on December 2 after receiving the shocking image on the cellphone application. The man, identified as Dante Sorrell, was shown beating the girl with the belt in her face when she wouldn't settle down in the car.
Elgin Poice Cmdr., Al Young, revealed that 27-year-old Sorrell was charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery.
Young said police were alerted to the Snapchat post and performed a well-being check on the girl in the 1200 block of Fleetwood Drive. Officers discovered bruises and red marks on the 3-year-old girl's face. The little girl was taken to the hospital to be evaluated and treated as authorities set out to arrest 27-year-old Sorrell.
Sorrell had reportedly been watching the toddler and her sister while their mother was at work. The details on the woman's relationship with Sorrell remains unclear. Later in the day, Sorrell reportedly brought the children to the mother’s place of work, which is when she noticed red marks all over her toddler daughter’s face.
The mother asked Sorrell about the reason behind the marks on her daughter's face and he allegedly told her that he hit the toddler with a belt because she wouldn’t settle down in the car.
Statements made by the child and the mother to police led to Sorrell's arrest and subsequent charges. Sorrell was arrested and charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery on Monday.
According to Kane County Jail records, Sorell remained Jailed Wednesday night on a $50,000 bond.
This story is yet another reminder to carefully choose who you allow to babysit your children.
