A New York father has been charged with first-degree manslaughter, accusing of beating his 2-year-old son to death.

Authorities said that Blair Robinson of Yonkers brought his unresponsive 2-year-old son Alex to the emergency room at St. John's Hospital on Christmas Eve. He told the staff at the hospital that he was not sure what was wrong with the child. It didn't take long for doctors to notice the bruising and they called police. Little alex was prounounced dead a short time later.

The Westchester Medical Examiner concluded that the toddler's death was caused by "blunt force trauma injuries."

Police paid a visit to Robinson's home on Maple Street and found the boy's mother and a 10-month-old baby girl living in filth. The 21-year-old mother was not charged with any crimes.

"The conditions... were horrible," Police Commissioner Charles Gardner said during a news conference. Gardner adds, "It was obvious these children were not being cared for."

The 10-month-old girl was removed from the home and turned over to Child Protective Services. Neighbors revealed that the boy's mother is eight months pregnant.

Robinson is due back in court in January. If convicted, he faces 25 years in prison.

“This was a particularly disturbing investigation for our personnel and I credit our patrol officers and detectives for their efforts and professionalism resulting in this arrest," said Police Commissioner Charles Gardner

Robinson was arrested after an intensive investigation, that included numerous interviews, the collection of forensic evidence and video surveillance, revealed that he had struck the child numerous times causing his death, police added.
