Former NFL Star and Convicted Murderer Aaron Hernandez Commits Suicide in Prison
Former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez was found dead in prison by a corrections officer, where the athlete was serving a life sentence for murder. Hernandez hung himself with a bedsheet attached to the window of his cell.

Hernandez, 27, was discovered hanging in his cell by corrections officers in Shirley, Massachusetts at approximately 3:05 am on Wednesday.

Christopher Fallon with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections confirmed, "Mr. Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bedsheet that he attached to his cell window. Mr. Hernandez also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items."

Emergency responders attempted to perform CPR and Hernandez was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounded dead at around 4:07 am.

The former Patriots tight end was serving a sentence of life in prison without parole for murdering Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro football player, in June 2013. The football team cut Hernandez loose just hours after his arrest.

Aaron was convicted in 2015 while he had been in a five-year, $40 million contract with the Patriots.

The former football star had just been cleared of killing two men in a drive-by shooting five days before his suicide. The charges stemmed from an altercation outside of a Boston club in July 2017.

Hernandez, who had pleaded not guilty, was acquitted by the jury on seven of the eight charges against him. He was only convicted only on an illegal firearms charge.

Hernandez is survived by a 4-year-old daughter named Avielle Janelle Jenkins-Hernandez and his fiancee Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez. She and Hernandez are not married, but Jenkins-Hernandez explained that she legally took Hernandez’s last name in 2015.

Shayanna even testified on the stand during Hernandez's trials.

Fans reacted to the tragic news of Hernandez's death with mixed feelings. Most people find it odd that Aaron took his own life after just being acquitted of the murders. Other people stated he did not deserve pity due to being a convicted murderer.
