The Silent Beauty: Meet Empire’s Gorgeous Star Grace Gealey [VIDEO]

We see our favorite actors and actresses on TV so much sometimes we forget they are real people with real lives. We get so wrapped up in their character we believe that they are that person even when they aren't filming. Most stars we see on TV have amazing backstories detailing how they got to where they are on the big screen. It takes a lot of endurance, perseverance, and mental willpower to tough it out in the big leagues of prime-time television.

Today we are highlighting actress Grace Gealey, but incase that name doesn't ring a bell, you may know her as Anika Calhoun on the hit Hip Hop soap opera drama, "Empire." On the show she headlines with two other seasoned big named vets, Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, so it's safe to say she's getting the best pointers on how to play her part on the show.

Grace was born an east coast Pennsylvania girl, but was relocated to be raised in the Cayman Islands since the age of 2. When she finally made her way back to the U.S. she picked up a Bachelor Degree in Theater Arts at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Learning Theater and Acting for her was a little more personal because she come from a home with deaf parents, and visceral communication was key when verbal communication is limited. Gealey didn't just stop at a Bachelor Degree but went on to attend the University of California where she received a Masters Degree in Fine Arts in acting. Deciding to take a shot at making it big, she moved to New York and picked up roles in Venus Flytrap: A Femme Noir Mystery Rent and The Misanthrope and Tartuffe. Then finally after all of the hard work and discipline, in 2014 she was cast in the role as Anika Calhoun in Empire, as that is how many of us know her today. A long journey with a fruitful ending, but knowing the drive Gealey has, we can only expect even bigger projects from her in the future.
