The Internet Is Tearing ‘Insecure’ Star Issa Rae Apart For Giving This Dating Advice To Black Women
Issa Rae's New York Times best-selling memoir, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, was released in 2015, right before the now-beloved TV star became a household name, thanks to her HBO series, Insecure.

Of course, once you become a public figure, the internet always finds a way to find your darkest secrets and for Issa Rae, trouble has sprouted in the form of the text from that aforementioned book.

Three years after the release of The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl,  an offending passage was recently highlighted on social media and people have thoughts as Issa Rae suggests that smart Black women should date Asian men instead of Black men.

"This is why I propose that black woman and Asian men join forces in love, marriage, and procreation," she penned. "Educated black women, what better intellectual match for you than an Asian man? And I'm not talking Filipinos; they're like the blacks of Asians. I'm talking Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, et cetera."

Take a look below:

Some people on social media have taken offense to her comments and claiming they will be boycotting her work from here on out:

Issa has yet to respond to the backlash on this just yet. Stick around though.

They shootin'. Season 3. #InsecureHBO
On an arguably related note, there are some hints about casting update floating around.

Jay Ellis (who portrays Lawrence) told all on The Angie Martinez Show

"I'm a little bit out of it," he shared. "I'm not really... They've been filming for the last six or seven weeks or something like that."

"I don't know if there is a relationship," he noted, of his character and Issa's. "There was closure at the end. There was like, full closure."

So, will we see Lawrence again?

"I don't know. I honestly, truly don't know," he shared. "I might get a call tomorrow and they gonna be like, 'Ay, can you come do this?' And I'll be like, 'Yeah, I'll be there.'"

Wait.... wut??!! Word on the Curb is that #JayEllis from @insecurehbo MAY NOT appear in sseason 3...👎🏾🤨😯 #DreamStillLives #sundaymotivation #NeverEndingComedy #sundayfunday

Oh and Issa has previously addressed criticism about the show in an impressively graceful manner. Many were upset that the characters seem to engage in sexual acts without protection.

In response, Isaa tweeted, “We tend to place condoms in the backgrounds of scenes or imply them," sharing a screen-grab of condoms on a dresser taken from a sex scene. “But we hear you guys and will do better next season.”

Showrunner Prentice Penny weighed in on the lack-of-condom controversy too, stating that “In the writers room we always assume they do [use condoms]."

Fans brought up statistics about young black people and HIV rates; Penny then doubled down, saying “We are just editing to get to emotional beats not to be misleading." He then added that the show is “not a PSA, documentary, [or] non profit organization.”
