Nicki Minaj's Brother Jelani Maraj Is Trying to Get His Recent Child Rape Conviction Overturned
Last November, Jelani Maraj, (Nicki Minaj’s brother) was found guilty of raping an 11-year-old girl. He was convicted on a felony charge of predatory sexual assault on a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

The sentence for his crimes were 25 years to life in prison. Prosecutors stated that Jelani raped his stepdaughter repeatedly while her mother was at work between April and November of 2015.

In spite of some reportedly damning genetic evidence and testimony from the victim (and her younger brother), Jelani isn't willing to stop pushing back.

According to Page Six, he was scheduled for sentencing on February 20...but this was put off for another month while his lawyer petitioned to have his child rape conviction tossed out.

The 39-year-old was not present in court during the petitioning. His lawyer argued that the allegations against his client were crafted by her mother as a part of a $25 million extortion scheme.

Yeah, that's been their narrative for a minute. His attorneys had insisted the girl was beaten by her mother, who was forcing her to lie under oath about being raped. They also insisted on dragging up the child’s sexual history, so…
During the trial, Jelani's mother, Carol, testified that the victim’s mother, Jacqueline Robinson, once talked to her about money in connection with her daughter’s claims of the sexual assault.

"We had a little conversation," she insisted. "As we were getting out of the car, she said, 'It's going to take a lot of money to get out of this one.'"

According to theJasmineBRAND.com, on the night Jelani was arrested, Carol sent a text message to Jacqueline, saying, "You guys set up my child."

She initially told the jurors that she did not remember the text, but she eventually admitted to writing it, stating, "A lot of things were going through my head that day. It was a confusing day."

Assistant DA Jared Rosenblatt has also mentioned that Carol texted Jacqueline again a few days later.

"I don't think you should give people details on anything," she reportedly penned. "You don't have to share your business with everyone who calls."

Hm.

"I knew he had a drinking problem," Carol admitted. "I can't say if he had a drinking problem during that time period."

Nassau County District Attorney, Madeline Singas, once called Jelani's sex crimes against his young stepdaughter "heinous acts," stating that his conviction was justice, before thanking the jury for finding him guilty on the charges.

She stated, "Justice demanded that this defendant be held accountable for these heinous acts and we are thankful to the jury for their careful deliberation. We hope that today’s verdict will help the family in the healing process and that it will close this terrible chapter in their lives."

Perhaps Jelani to give it up and go ahead and serve his time.
