Former NBA Baller Kobe Bryant Met With Backlash Over Rape Accusation After Winning Oscar Award Sunday Night
Sunday night, Kobe Bryant won an Oscar Award for Dear Basketball (ESPN noted that this project was based on the poem Kobe wrote in 2015; it talked about his then-impending retirement from professional basketball.)

Many across the globe decided to throw their hands up and question this choice, as the basketball player-turned-businessman-turned-executive-producer was famously accused of sexually assaulting a woman fifteen years ago.

Quite a fair few felt that this win went against the #MeToo and Time’s Up theme of the event, Fox News explained. Others blasted the Academy for “forgetting” about his sexual assault allegations, despite supposedly overlooking other stars for their rumored misdeeds.

Obviously, these reactions were splashed all over social media.

“So Harvey Weinstein gets kicked out of Hollywood and Kobe Bryant gets two jerseys retired and wins an Oscar in the same #MeToo year,” Clay Travis posted. “Simply amazing.”

“Hi everyone. Can someone explain to me why we all pretend that Kobe Bryant wasn’t credibly accused of rape,” Jeanne Kozelek pondered.

“Kobe forgot to thank Father Time for giving him 15 years between the Colorado incident and #MeToo,” stand-up comedian Christian Finnegan tweeted.

“People say that rape allegations will ruin a man’s life but here is Kobe winning an Oscar in front of my eyes,” podcaster Aminatou Sow quipped.

Kobe was 24-years-old when he was accused of rape by a 19-year-old woman (he's now 39), who was working at the hotel where Kobe was staying in Edwards, Colorado as he was preparing for surgery.

According to him, he had an adulterous sexual encounter with the woman.

Kobe never faced jail time, as his accuser refused to testify, which resulted in the dismissal of the case.

The two sides ultimately agreed on a settlement and Kobe eventually was willing to release a public apology.

“I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did,” he said. “After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.”
“You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream, and I’ll always love you for it.” Link in bio #DearBasketball @go90Sports
Anyway, plenty of other sport superstars chimed in with their praise and support in regards the recent win.
