Report: Man Charged With Shooting Girlfriend 11 Times In The Stomach In Front Of Her 6 Children
An Illinois man has been charged with attempted murder after police said he shot his girlfriend 11 times in the stomach, while their six children were at home.

The 38-year-old convicted felon was charged in the shooting, which occurred last weekend in Cicero.

Mario Scott was reportedly playing dominoes and drinking with his 33-year-old girlfriend on Saturday just before midnight in their home in the 2200 block of South 58th Avenue in Cicero.

During the game, Scott suddenly left the table and went into his bedroom. He returned from the bedroom with a .22-caliber semiautomatic handgun. He began shooting his girlfriend, hitting her 11 times in her midsection.

It is not known if Scott became angry while playing dominoes with his girlfriend, while very intoxicated. Thus far, there is no true motive for the attack has been revealed.

Six children – ages 1, 4, 7, 10, 11 and 14 – were inside the home at the time of the shooting. Scott asked the two oldest children, aged 11 and 14, to help him bring the woman to his vehicle while the four children watched.

Police said that Scott prevented his children from calling 911 and took a cell phone away from one of them when she attempted to call 911.

Scott dropped his wounded girlfriend off at the emergency room at Stroger Hospital and left. He returned a bit later with two of the children, who insisted on seeing their mother.

Scott's unidentified girlfriend remains hospitalized in critical condition, after doctors performed several surgeries.

Police officers from Chicago and Cicero tracked Scott down, and arrested him.

Scott was taken into custody, charged with one count each of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Cicero police took the six children into protective custody and contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services to facilitate a safety plan for their care.

Judge Kristyna C. Ryan set Scott’s bail at $1 million during a hearing Tuesday, according to Cook County court records. His next court appearance was scheduled for Feb. 6 in Maywood.
