Sometimes regular old TV viewing can get a bit boring and repetitious, so if you really want to add a little spice to your life just Netflix and chill.  Here are some must see black movies on Netflix that are guaranteed to keep you entertained. 


Narrated by Forrest Whitaker, this film follows the life of a geek, named Malcolm and his two friends.  Set in the tough neighbourhood of Inglewood, California the coming-of-age drama has its share of drugs and violence and takes you on a gritty adventure that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. 

2.Sister Code

Model Eva Marcilla, actress Drew Sidora and Amber Rose play the role of foster sisters in this funny, yet touching story. Grab your popcorn and soda, and get comfortable as you enjoy this chick flick with your girlfriends. 

3.November Rule

In this romantic comedy— Starring Tatyana Ali, Lala Anthony and DJ Qualls— an up-and-coming shoe mogul makes a rule to break up with his current girlfriend November 1st of each year. The rule works perfectly until he finally breaks up with one particular girl who he later realizes is his soulmate. The quest to win her back takes an interesting turn.  

4.Ride Along 2

If you remember the hilariousness of the first Ride Along movie then you certainly would not want to miss the second instalment. The always-funny Kevin Hart and his serious yet comedic partner Ice Cube did not disappoint, so if you missed the movie in theatres, Netflix has you covered. 

5.Beast of No Nations

This one offers the best of both worlds; eye candy for the women thanks to Idris Elba, and war drama for the men.  This Netflix original movie tells the story of a child-soldier fighting in the civil war. The talented cast and well-written script makes it well worth the watch. 

6.Brotherly Love

Starring Keke Palmer, Romeo Miller and Cory Hardrict, this is one of the top black movies on Netflix for a reason. This raw, gritty and unpredictable drama revolves around a group of high schoolers forced to facing life- altering decisions.  It is set in Philadelphia and is reminiscent of a classic Spike Lee film.

7.Mike Epps: Don’t Take it Personal

Why not tickle your funny bone by watching this hilarious stand-up comedy featuring Mike Epps and his unfiltered sense of humour. This one is guaranteed to keep you, and your date laughing all night long. 

8.Lila and Eve

When Viola Davis and Jennifer Lopez team up, you know it’s about to go down, and it certainly did in this melodrama. Viola and Jlo’s characters are two distraught mothers whose children were murdered in a drive-by shooting. The mothers decide to team up in order to avenge their children’s death resulting in a heart pumping, vigilante thriller.
