Report: Pregnant Woman Forced To Deliver Baby Prematurely After Boyfriend Sets Her on Fire

A pregnant woman in Maryland was attacked by her boyfriend, who doused her in flammable liquid and set her on fire because he did not want to be a father.

Laquinn Phillips set 30-year-old Andrea Grinage on fire, forcing her to deliver her daughter seven weeks early.

Authorities received a 911 call about a fire at around 11:47 a.m. on Friday at the Addison Chapel Apartments in the 1400 block of Elkwood Lane. Firefighters and officers arrived to find smoke billowing from the second and third floors of the three-story building.

Andrea Grinage, 30, suffered burns to a large part of her body and was transported to the Burn Unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center where she delivered a baby girl, Journey Aleah, seven weeks early. Both Grinage and her newborn daughter are in critical condition.

Andrea was already mom to two sons, ages 8 and 15. Her father, Arthur Grinage Sr. revealed the man responsible for the horrific attack was the father of Andrea's third child.

Grinage Sr. revealed that the horrific incident stemmed from the pregnancy and the boyfriend not wanting to be a father. Andrea's dad told the media, "It all stems from him not wanting to take responsibility of him being a newborn dad. He didn't want that. And once a baby is conceived it's too late for all that. You either step up and be a dad or you walk away."

Andrea called her mother to warn her about her boyfriend possibly heading to her D.C. home to try and harm her as well.
Prince George County police spokesperson, Jennifer Donelan, revealed, "She was able to tell emergency personnel and our officers who set her on fire, and also indicated to our officers that particular individual, an adult male with whom she had a relationship with, was known to, was possibly on his way to Washington D.C. to do more harm to a relative with hers."

Thankfully the suspect, 34-year-old Laquinn Phillips, was talked into turning himself in to authorities. Phillips has been charged with attempted first and second degree murder, arson, assault and several additional related charges. He currently remains in custody in the District awaiting extradition to Prince George's County.

Donelan praised Grinage for maintaining her composure for the sake of her daughter. "These are not the circumstances under which this baby was to be born.

Via #gofundme 👇🏽 On today September 8, my daughter was critcally burned over 90% of her body as a result of domestic violence. She's a mother of 2 boys ages 15 and 8 and a newborn that was born 7 weeks premature. Everything was lost in the fire and she must begin a new with your help. She has a long road to recovery and unknown medical cost. PLEASE stop domestic violence!!

"She was very brave. We want her family to know how brave she was, suffering as badly as she was - critically burned, worried about her unborn child, dealing with those injuries and was able to share that information with us so that we could get moving with our investigation and locate this person."

We stand in solidarity with Andrea and her family... I'm fasting with the family. Will you join us? 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿 #ForAndrea #FastingforAndrea #AndreaGrinage #stopdomesticviolence
