BET Preps ‘The Bobby Brown Story’ For Fall 2018, Woody McClain to Reprise His ‘New Edition Story’ Role
BET has announced they will air a solo biopic on singer Bobby Brown, following the success of the "New Edition Story" three-part miniseries that aired on the network earlier this year.

The upcoming two-part series will focus on Brown’s solo career after leaving New Edition, as well as his colorful personal life.

Brown's biopic was written by Abdul Williams and executive produced by Jesse Collins and will pick up where the "New Edition Story" left off. The biopic on Bobby will chronicle the troubled singer’s exit from the popular ’80s band, as he makes his way into his solo career.

The miniseries will also cover his affair with Janet Jackson and volatile marriage to legendary singer Whitney Houston. The biopic will also detail Bobby and Whitney's drug problems, their divorce in 2007, and Whitney's tragic death in 2012 ahead of the Grammys.

Brown's new series will also touch on the death of his daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, who died under similar circumstances as her famous mother. Bobbi died in July 2015 after being found submerged in a bathtub and spending six months in a coma.

Woody McClain will be reprising his role as Bobby after playing the singer in the miniseries about the group.

There are no other details on other cast members such as including Houston, Bobbi Kristina, Jackson, Teddy Riley, L.A. Reid, Babyface and others. McClain is repped by Henderson Represents, Luber Roklin Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.

Bobby's story isn't all doom and gloom though. The biopic will also cover Brown's road to sobriety and finding love again. Brown married his manager, Alicia Etheredge, in June 2012. They have three children together - son Cassius and daughters Bodhi and Hendrix.

"The New Edition Story" was a huge success for the BET network, with 29 million total viewers during premiere week. Bobby's solo biopic should be a huge hit with viewers as well.

Brown recently settled a lawsuit with TV One over a biopic about his daughter Bobbi's life. Brown claimed the portrayal of him as a bad dad was defamatory, while Bobbi Kristina's estate claimed the show violated her right to privacy. The biopic went on to air in October.

Brown and Bobbi's estate sued the network for $2 million in damages, but the actual amount was confidential.
