Toya Wright gave a super stellar interview to Cosmo and you should absolutely carve out a time to press pause on your to-do list and go read it. That said, we wanted to give you the TL;DR version in the meantime. Or in case you are just too lazy to click over and give it a skim.

After delving into her close bond with daughter Reginae—which made us “awwww” like total fools, by the way; she even gave a shout-out to ex-husband Lil Wayne here, saying that he was a part of her support system when Reginae was first born—she discussed how she deals with haters…by ignoring them. Unless, of course, they bring her daughter into their nonsense. Then she shifts into “Mama Bear” mode since she doesn’t care what people say about her, but “kids are off limits”.

Reginae and I are very close. I’m not only her mother, but her friend. When I first had Reginae, I had so much support from my family and of course her Dad, Wayne. The advice I would give to any parent is, always be open with your children. My daughter talks to me about everything and she is on the road to being a successful entrepreneur and businesswoman. We have been very blessed!

I honestly don’t pay attention to the haters. UNLESS, someone says something about my daughter and then Mama Bear kicks in. I don’t care what people say about me, but kids are off limits. Social media is a blessing and a curse, but it is great for my businesses.

Toya also pointed out that social media has pros and cons. While it is good for her business, it does give trolls and nay-sayers a platform to spew their hate. But trolls shouldn’t hold their breath, waiting for nasty comments to knock Toya down; she’s a trooper. Not to mention, she has bigger things to worry about. You know, like work.

Speaking of which, she notes that work is one of the things that keeps her moving forward despite hardships. “Work keeps my mind off of anything I may have going on in my personal life”. Overcoming obstacles may not have been easy, but she has certainly proven herself to be an expert at moving onwards and upward.

Last, but not least, she said that God is always watching over her and her family.

I stay in constant prayer. It hasn’t been easy. As a black female entrepreneur, I have to keep working hard and keep pushing. Plus, work keeps my mind off of anything I may have going on in my personal life. I know that God is always watching over my family and me.

Having endured quite a few hardships (including the deaths of loved ones) this year, we can easily store Toya’s well-chosen words of wisdom in our metaphorical pockets for future pick-me-ups since, like the lovey Serena Williams, she is clearly speaking from experience. Thanks for inspiring us, Toya!
