See Everything These Usher Reports Are Not Telling You About Herpes
Usher is reportedly facing several lawsuits right now, as he may have infected several women with herpes.

Well, let’s make this a learning lesson, shall we?

Here are five pieces of information about this virus that everyone should know. Also, we are not doctors or medical professionals in any sense. We wish that we were, but we aren’t. Go consult your doctor if you have any questions or concerns.

1. There Are Several Different “Types” Of Herpes

Herpes can be caused by herpes simplex type 1 and 2 (HSV-1, HSV-2). HSV-1 causes cold sores on the mouth or face and can be transmitted to one's genitals via oral/genital sex, while HSV-2 is genital herpes; it is typically caused by HSV-1 herpes.

2. It Is Extremely Common

One in three people have the virus that causes herpes, with oral herpes affecting around 80% of people. Forty percent of genital herpes is caused by HSV-1 herpes. Oh and eighty percent of infected folks don’t know that they have it; the symptoms might be very mild or not present at all.

3. There Is A Treatment

While there no cure, there are effective treatments. Daily medications are available to help prevent recurrences and transmission of the virus.
4. Condoms Won’t Protect You

We are going to preface this with “PLEASE STILL WEAR A CONDOM”, okay? Condoms won't prevent the transfer of the disease. That said, it certainly reduces the chances, but does not eliminate them.  Please also note that it is not transmitted by blood, but from skin-to-skin contact.

Oh and it isn’t always infectious…a person who is infected with herpes might not actually be able to pass it to someone else. If there were no symptoms of herpes, it may mean that the virus was shed from the skin, meaning that someone may not be infectious. Be careful though!

5. Herpes Doesn’t Always Looks How You’d Expect It To

Herpes sores are very mild and are often mistaken as insect bites, abrasions, yeast infection or jock itch.

Well, this was…rather unsexy. But necessary! You’re welcome.
